Does your workforce have the necessary competence to work safely?

To be regarded as competent a person needs to have sufficient training, knowledge , skills and experience to enable them to protect the health and safety of themselves and others who could be affected by their work.

Occupational standards for health and safety practice have been set by the European National Training Organisation (ENTO). They cover the main areas and key principles of practice that are common for managers and the role of health and safety professionals, regardless of the industry or sector they work in.

They include:

·       promote a positive health and safety culture
·       develop and implement a health and safety policy
·       develop and implement effective communication systems for health and safety information
·       identify and evaluate health and safety hazards
·       develop and implement health and safety review systems
·       influence and keep pace with improvements in health and safety practice.
